Tampines has become a place for work & play; and home for the last six years. I love the vibe and the neighbourhood. As a nature loving geek, I appreciate how close I am to parks, reservoirs and quarry. I guess I just got lucky to marry someone who have been residing in Tampines all his life. Tampines west is the best when it comes to how fast I can get to nature. Bedok Reservoir Park is exactly 1.4 kilometre away or 20 minutes walk from my place. If you are cycling, it takes a fraction of the time. I use to walk over weekly before I had my little brown bear.
Looking back, I love the Tampines vibe even before I started living here. During my poly days, I had a poly friend who would frequently ask me to stay the night at her place in Tampines so we could catch up on our studies. I was living in Jurong West then and rarely visited the East. The area quickly resonate with me and I told myself I would make a home there someday.
Many years on, life brought me back to Tampines again. This time to start a family. I cannot think of a better place to raise our little bear.
A little known fact about Tampines (An area scan)
Tampines is divided into four parts; Tampines East, Tampines North, Tampines West and Tampines Central.
In this post, I will be focusing on Tampines West. If you are able to see in the map, Tampines West HDB flats is separated into different pockets; each pocket has their own unique name related to greenery and nature. This is also prevalent in Tampines North where the newer estates are. Most flats in Tampines West has a balance lease of 60 years or more. The newer flats has more than 90 years lease with some units reaching MOP (minimum occupational period). They are located along Tampines Avenue 8 and street 86.

Similarly the "700" and "900" block series are distinguished by their own unique name. You can easily search on the maps to view the names of the different estate.
Block 700, 800 and 900 series makes up the HDB Residential Estate in Tampines West. Private residential condominiums and executive condominiums that are located within Tampines West sits along Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 10. Upgraders can look forward to the wide range of projects in this area. Some units in these condominium enjoys an unblock view of the Reservoir and the Quarry. The choices of units is so diverse in these area alone that you will surely be spoilt for choice. Supply of houses will keep increasing when more of BTO flats reach MOP in the coming years.

Bedok Reservoir Park sits on an 88ha of land with 4.66 kilometre loop trail that connects Tampines and Bedok New Town. The reservoir serves as a popular recreational area and offer a scenic and pristine environment for activities like jogging, cycling, fishing and picnicking. There are several water sports facilities in the area, making it a hub for kayaking and dragon boating. It is truly a pleasant escape from the bustling life and concrete jungle.
Temasek Polytechnic also offers a shortcut route to the Park making it a nice and pleasant walk through the school to reach the reservoir. Recently, there have been major enhancement around the Park. Home Team NS Bedok Reservoir and Passion Wave at Bedok Reservoir was recently built and completed late last year. You can now book a chalet with a reservoir view through home team NS. Other facilities include swimming pool, water play, event hall and restaurants.
A little north of Bedok Reservoir, park the quarry also provide a tranquil escape from the urban jungle. It is a man-made lake but was once an active sand quarry. The lake is surrounded by grassy banks and is designed to be an eco-friendly park offering a walk through nature. It feels like going into an off beaten path. There is an ongoing effort to preserve this natural environment. A great way to balance urban development in Tampines with green spaces and ecological preservation.
2. Connectivity
Tampines West is connected to the city via Tampines West MRT and Tampines MRT Station. In the future, Tampines will enjoy better connectivity to all parts of the Eastern area of Singapore.
Which brings me to my next point.
3. Close proximity to the Airport and Jewel.
Obviously, one of the criteria for living in the East is how close it is to the Airport. That equals to job opportunities, frequent flight to anywhere and the biggest indoor greenery and the rain vortex (now called the HSBC Rain Vortex) is your weekly playground; if you are like me of course. I enjoy random trips to the airport to fetch my husband from work.
I could be talking about this for days but living in the east fit our lifestyle perfectly. You could be a city dweller as your work takes you there. It is also true for many Singaporeans that living close to where you work is the most important reason to live where you live. And if you are not living close to your workplace, perhaps it is about time you give me a call. Lets talk. =P
I have actually persuaded two friends to move to the east and the love it here.
4. Plenty of opportunity to upgrade to Private Property
Tampines west offers plenty of options to upgrade to private Residential. In Tampines West alone, there are about eight private residential development with one under-construction. This include, The Pinevale, The Santorini, The Alps Residence, The Tapestry, Q Bay Residence, The Arc at Tampines, Waterview and The Tropica. All of which are holding a 99- year lease term with The Tropica and Pinevale being one of the oldest project here in Tampines West.

2. United World College of South East Asia is ranked number #10 in Best Schools in Singapore. It is located along Tampines Street 73. There is a certain criteria to enter the school. It is a global movement that brings together students from all over the world with explicit aim of fostering peace and international understanding.
If you are looking for a balance lifestyle that combines natural beauty, cultural richness, convenience and strong sense of community, I would highly recommend you to move to Tampines. These qualities make it an appealing place to live for a wide range of residents, from families to expatriates and nature enthusiasts to urban professionals.
I am a resident myself for over six years, living in Tampines West. The area offers so much convenience and easy access to many places that fit my lifestyle. Everything you need can be found in the area and on some days I do not even need to go out from my Estate.
The community is very friendly and helpful. It helps that my loved ones are staying within close proximity. To know whether an estate fits your personally, take a walk and get to know the place better. Perhaps roam around the area for a day to see if is well worth to move here. Do make sure prepare a checklist as well.
